Today I bought ten kilos of sugar. It feels strange and slightly worrying to buy TEN KILOS of sugar, but the way the big packs were displayed at the supermarket made me realise it's the normal thing to do around here, come August. And a quick roam in the strawberry field confirmed I'm not mad. All kinds of berries are now ripening at high speed: Strawberries, blueberries, krøkebær (can't find the English word for it, but it's blueberry-like and grows further up in the mountains), and then the redcurrants, blackcurrants and cherries. And this weekend we will go to Finnmark to look for cloudberries! The big pack of sugar will allow us to keep the berries throughout the autumn and winter, in various types of jams and drinks. And those touches of sweetness are not going to feel scary at all.

Sweet August
