Sunday on a Wednesday

Today, the sun returns to Tromsø. Or rather, the arctic cap of the globe is now starting to turn towards the sun - not away from it. From now on we'll have a bit more daylight every day, until, in late May, the sun remains above the horizon for two months solid. People in Tromsø celebrate January 21st with 'solboilla' - sunbuns, and there are three different types. The one rolled in icing sugar is filled with vanilla cream. The one rolled in sugar is plain, with no filling. And the one with a bit of icing on it contains a dollop of raspberry jam. At work today, the Dean served all three kinds along with hot chocolate. So it's not just Christmas that brings out the child in us. The first arctic sign of spring does too.
