With the past few days’ snowy weather, two eagles are now making frequent visits to the farm. In the summer we sometimes see them circling above the trees in the hills about three hundred metres northeast of Tønsåsen. Now they have joined the crows, seagulls and magpies in wanting a share of the bread that is breakfast for our geese. This morning I watched as noisy seagulls tried to chase away the big eagles. Quite a strange battle, especially since the eagles got fed up and disappeared up the hills again. But even more so because it’s really only the magpies that know how to get into the goose-garden (through a small door) and help themselves to the bread. The other birds just watch and wish. And fight. Above is a picture from this morning with, alas, no eagles in it. What it does show is the magic changing of seasons and that snow this time of year is a good thing (even if all our potatoes are still not brought in-house). Congratulations to Al Gore and IPCC! A Nobel Peace Prize wisely awarded and well-deserved.
