Yesterday we took one of the geese. Once it laid on the kitchen table we realised the size of the bird and were no longer in doubt it will feed the nine people we have invited for dinner next Saturday. Hours were spent plucking the feathers and the down, and in the end we had three bags nearly full: One with coarse feathers, one with fine feathers and one with pure down. Amazing! This evening, as Klaus went down to the goose house to feed Gustav, Martin and Gerd, he noticed something in the sawdust that he first thought was a kicked-away potato (we give them vegetables for vitamins in the winter). However, it turned out to be Gerd's first egg! Since we've still got several months of cold weather ahead we will wait with new chicks and the egg has therefore gone into our fridge.
