The geese: Having built a no-nonsense nest inside the goose house, Gerd has now gone full-time with the brooding of five eggs. The book says that geese lay all the eggs before they start the brooding, but we are not entirely sure about Gerd's family planning. It's both her and our first gosling season and the learning curve is steep. If all goes well the goslings will hatch in about a month. According to the book, that is...The sheep: Judging from their recent weight increase, our 'wild stabb in the dark' is that Isadora, Elke and Ida are expecting lambs this spring. Isadora and Elke are quite big, and Ida's belly is markably wider than that of her sister Inga. In previous years, the lambs in Tønsåsen have been born during the first week of May. The ground here is still covered by at least a metre of snow, though. So while we know that viking sheep are amazingly robust, we keep our fingers crossed for warm weather in the days ahead...
The buck: Over the past few weeks Albert has become considerably more aggressive, to the point where we started to worry about whether he could harm children visiting the farm or his female sheep companions (and their unborn lambs). So a few days ago Klaus left him tied up for the entire day, not just the nights. The change was NOT popular and after the first day Albert had no voice left from all the shouting (converted to human-speak). Now he's gradually starting to relax and accept the new situation. Good food, a salt stone and a bit of company seems to help!
